What I'm Reading Wednesday

What have you just finished reading? Heaven's Prisoners by James Lee Burke. The second of the Dave Robicheaux series of detective books. Always makes me want to go back to New Orleans

What are you reading? Hello, is this planet Earth?: My View from the International Space Station by Tim Peake. A 'coffee table' book as they say filled with Peake's photographs and observations .

What is your next book to read? Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race by Margot Lee Shetterly. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the movie and I'm hoping the book is as good.

According to my Goodreads stats, I've read 54 of my goal of 70 books in 2017. It also proceeds to tell me I'm on track and have read 74% of my goal.

A fine line between pleasure and pain

I've never kept a secret of the fact that there is a BDSM aspect of the relationship between Samantha, Lucy and I. It's how we met Lucy in the first place. But I've never sat down and talked about it with you.

A lot of people have preconceived notions of what that means, of how our relationships work, about the kind of sex we have, about the types of things we enjoy - and maybe you do too. The truth is it's also probably nothing like what you're imagining. I'm not entirely sure how much sense this is going to make but I'm going to try and shed a light on some of this.behind this cut to spare those who aren't interested )

I don't know if that does really explain or clarify things but it's something I've been wanting to write about for a while. It's a pretty important part of who I am, who we are, how we work and our relationships so it felt important to blog about it.

I'm also thinking about maybe - if I can figure out these custom access lists and anyone would be interested in hearing about it - writing about some of our adventures.

Music Monday

Samantha is at school, Lucy is at yoga and I've just come back from a walk with the dogs. Time to relax with some coffee and today's paper.

For my second Music Monday and continuing on with that much neglected 30 day meme we have A favourite song with a person's name in the title which gives us

A very uptempo version of Rossini - William Tell Overture: Finale. I love how passionate the conductor is and how into the music all the musicians are. A wonderful piece for blowing away the cobwebs on a Monday morning

[community profile] thefridayfive for September 29th

1) How did you choose your LJ/DW username?I'm a very boring and unoriginal kind of guy when it comes to usernames... it's my name.
2. What has been your favourite day this year and why? July 3rd definitely stands out as one - Samantha was offered what is basically her dream job. May 17th when I went over to France with some RAF buddies to go fishing is another.
3. What is your favourite film you've seen in the past year and why? I think Wonder Woman. I'm not good at the explanations and the whys - but it was everything I could have wanted from the film and more
4. What is your favourite book you've read in the past year and why? Hello, is this planet Earth?: My View from the International Space Station by Tim Peake. Just amazing
5. You get to program a half-hour of music videos on MTV. What videos to you pick? The music I listen to doesn't really have videos per se and I'm pretty sure MTV's viewers wouldn't be impressed. Perhaps some 2Cellos or Lindsey Stirling to draw them in gently?

Music Monday

Has it really been a month since I last posted? It really doesn't feel like it. Where has the time gone? I suppose mostly I've been busy with various DIY projects and unpacking and other house-related activities.

I realised that a while ago I was posting a 30 day music meme which I never completed and although it's been... a few months I don't like leaving things incomplete. I noticed [personal profile] zhelana has been posting a 'music monday' which I've decided to shamelessly steal and will post the remaining tracks - and others - on a Monday.

The next one of the prompts on the list is A song that has many meanings for you and after careful consideration

Holst - Planets: Mars, The Bringer Of War is a very evocative piece. It can make me feel strong, powerful, angry or scared - or all at once.

There is a hell. I have not only been there, I have spent several hours there this afternoon. Hell - it's name is Ikea!

We do now, however, have most of the items required for turning one of the bedrooms into a walk-in closet so I guess I know what my first main DIY project is going to be this week. It should end up looking nice when it's all done and I'm looking forward to having a new project to tackle.

All moved in

Here we are, now in South Wales as opposed to North Wales.

I think one of the main adjustments is going to be not being right on the coast - I'm going to miss being able to just amble down the road with the dogs and there's the beach. That's not to say that there's not still plenty of places to walk them. I'm looking forward to exploring this new area. There is a coast about 5 miles away, there's plenty of parks around

We're about as moved in as we're going to get right now. There's still some cosmetic stuff like new carpets and painting and decorating that need finalising but the important things have mostly found their homes. This place is definitely bigger than we needed for the three of us and there's honestly some space we're not quite sure what to do with yet.

I'd like to get a full home cinema installed, there's room for that which makes me pretty happy. We're thinking about making one of the rooms a 'library' - god knows between us we've got enough space and enough books and that's always been a dream of mine.
Those are my first two jobs I think.

Samantha's got her office set up. Lucy has 'her' bedroom set up - not that she ever sleeps in there, it's mostly just her own space. The girls are talking about making one of the bedrooms a walk-in closet. Our play room is set up. Like I said, the important things.

It'll be trial and error for a while as we settle and figure out what does/doesn't work but for now I'm looking forward to this house becoming our home.

Moving day

It's here. Moving day. Well, in about 12 hours. All our worldly possessions will be hopefully transported from here to there. We're spending tomorrow night in a hotel then the unpacking begins on Sunday - it's a 4-5 hour drive down and none of us relish the idea of starting the task in the evening.

We've got help coming to unpack and organise. Almost like an unpacking party. My son, Samantha's brother, some friends Jason, Joe and Ben. Samantha will be supervising and directing. I've been told by her not to carry anything heavy. Lucy's really quite stressed and it's triggering her depression. I wish there was something I could do to help her but I know she won't really relax until we're all settled. Planning/organising helps calm her down and we do have plenty of lists and checkboxes of what goes where and what's in each box so that may be her main role. Possibly looking after the animals who are also freaking out.

I'm not sure yet how we're taking the animals. We've got two cars and Samantha's not able to drive so her brother's driving her car down. My best guess right now is the cats in the car with them, the dogs with me. Lucy can pick which car she wants to travel in.

The main thing right now is to try and get a good nights sleep. Good night, internet. See you at the end of next week when the internet is back up and running.

And breathe

Things are looking good for the house move. All the paperwork has completed, we've sold our house and we're still on track for moving into the new house on the 26th. I'm a little sick of living in boxtown and not being able to find anything - although we've all three had the chance to have a really good clear out. We're not down sizing but sometimes it's good to out with the old, in with the new.

I'm definitely looking forward to some decorating and gardening and putting our mark on the new place.

Speaking of things for moving, we've found Lucy a new therapist down there - recommended by her current one. We've met a few times and they seem to get on, and she seems LGBT and poly friendly so that's always a relief. Lucy's also got a yoga class sorted and is looking at the various support groups that are available to her. She's definitely stressed and struggling with her mental health but nowhere near as bad as I was dreading. I wish I could help her more. *sigh emoji*

Samantha's leg is healing well. She's got the cast off and now just has a very cumbersome plastic boot on the foot. Shes still walking on crutches and bitching about physios being evil sadistic bastards so I think she'll be just fine!

Tomorrow, incidentally, is my and Samantha's 13th wedding anniversary ♥
She's up to something. I know her well enough to know she's got something planned. She won't tell me. Neither will Lucy.

So yes. Things continue to tick over nicely in Casa Anderson which is always nice to be able to say. Now, we head to the local cinema to see The Dark Tower.

Relaxing Weekend.

My girls have been away with some friends this weekend on a 'girly weekend'. I miss them but have also enjoyed some peace and quiet if I'm perfectly honest!

Yesterday, my son came for a visit and we lost a few hours down the pub watching football, followed by Chinese takeout and more football at home. It was very enjoyable.
He also delivered an anniversary present for Samantha and I - but we're under strict instructions not to open until the 19th.

Today has been spent on a long walk on the beach with the dog, some time catching up on various and sundry social media and listening to 2Cellos on Youtube and reading. There was also an afternoon nap. Currently there is a roast chicken dinner in the oven and I'm eyeing Interstellar on Amazon Prime for evening.

All in all a very pleasant way to spend an weekend.

30 Day Music Meme - Day 19

Day 19 - A song that makes you think about life:

Symphony No. 2 by Gustav Mahler, known as the Resurrection Symphony, was written between 1888 and 1894, and first performed in 1895. Apart from the Eighth Symphony, this symphony was Mahler's most popular and successful work during his lifetime. It was his first major work that established his lifelong view of the beauty of afterlife and resurrection

What I'm Reading Wednesday

What have you just finished reading? The Narrows by Michael Connelly

What are you reading? The Closers by Michael Connelly

What is your next book to read? The Brass Verdict also by Michael Connelly

I'm working my way through the Harry Bosch series. It's been years since I read any of them and there's been many more books published. I'm thoroughly enjoying them. I've also heard Amazon have made a show based on them so I may have to check that out

30 Day Music Meme - Days 17 & 18

Day 17 - A song that you would sing as a duet on karaoke:
There's a very easy answer to this question and that is n/a - I don't sing, I don't karaoke.
Samantha and Lucy, on the other hand, have been known to do a very loud and out of key rendition of Eurythmics & Aretha Franklin - Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves

Day 18 - A song from the year you were born:

I had to have a quick google to answer this and the answer is Blue Tango by Leroy Anderson "Pops" Concert Orchestra which I have vague memories of hearing as a small child.

Who Am I?

I know I shouldwant to keep posting videos for the music meme but right now I don't want to have music playing. Both Lucy and Samantha are actually asleep and even though they're upstairs, I don't want to risk disturbing them. Neither of them are sleeping very well lately so while they're actually sleeping, I'm going to leave hem.

I did come across from a friend on facebook some random quizzes. I ended up taking them and I was very amused by the 'answers' I got.

The first one is Can We Guess Your Real Identity By The Picture You Pick and the result I got was
You are a guy in your mid 20's. We're guessing around 24 years old. Maybe 25?
You like thrills.
You like to have fun with your friends and enjoy nonsense.
You have a girlfriend and you love her. (She loves you too!)

Yes, I'm a guy. I'm not in my mid-20s, left those behind many years ago. I definitely enjoy thrills, having fun with my friends altough I'm not sure about 'enjoying nonsense' but perhaps the simple fact I'm taking these kinds of quizzes proves I do? And I do love my girlfriend - and my wife!

The second one is Can We Guess Your Age Based On Your Taste In Music and the result I got was
Based on your taste in music you’re sixty-eight!
You’ve got a record collection that would make most modern hipsters insanely jealous. You’ve been to more than one reunion tour and have the t-shirts to prove it.

The age is a little closer to the mark but reunion tours would be difficult considering most of the composers I listen to have been deceased many centuries.

They're just silly quizzes I know but they amused me so I thought I'd share the results!

The Friday Five for 14 July 2017: Marriage

1) Do you want to get married? I already am married, very happily for the last 13 years to the beautiful Samantha.
If the laws ever changed, we would also get married to Lucy
2) Where would you like to get married? We got married in a registry office, nothing fancy, just the two of us. Me in a suit, her in a beautiful dress
3) If you were getting married in a week, who would be in your wedding party? God now there's a question. We'd keep it small and intimate again; my son, Lucy, Samantha's father and brother.
4) What would your wedding colours be? I have no idea. Pale blues, greens and pinks? Our favourite colours.
5) Does marriage mean to you 'til death do us part?' This time around it does.

30 Day Music Meme - Day 16

Day 16 - One of your favourite classical songs:

To start with, there aren't really songs in classic music. Songs imply singing. Classical has pieces which are played. And the last 15, in case you failed to notice, have all been classical pieces...

30 Day Music Meme - Day 15

Day 15 - A song that is a cover by another artist:

2Cellos's arrangement of Thunderstruck by AC/DC
Lucy introduced me to 2Cellos earlier this year and their 'duelling cellos' are nearly as much fun to listen to as they are to watch.

This was a hard one to pick a song for. Technically, the majority of classical music are cover versions since we're not sitting listening to the original composer, but other (usually)incredibly skilled musicians playing their pieces.

Hello Dreamwidth.

Apologies for the lack of updates over the last couple of weeks. It's been a crazy busy time around here but I'm mostly still treading water. We're all a little stressed - and that's a trigger for worsening poor Lucy's schizophrenia

The basics are
Samantha has been offered a new job at the other end of the country. After much discussion, she's accepted it and we're moving next month down to Cardiff.
Unfortunately, and making packing and moving much harder than anticipated, Samantha has broken her leg. One of the most terrifying phonecalls a man can recieve is one from the hospital saying his wife's been in an accident. She tripped and fell down the stairs at work, gave herself mild concussion, a couple of cracked ribs and a displaced fracture of her right leg.

Also, Samantha now has a Dreamwidth account of her own. She's been struggling post-operation on her leg, groggy with painkillers and looking for something to do other than watch TV and read - she's a very active woman and being mostly immobile isn't working for her. You can find her at [personal profile] samanderson

I'm hoping to get caught up reading your posts over the next couple of days or so. Things are getting easier now we're finding our current rhythm around the house. And I'll get back into the posting that music meme probably tomorrow when I've had chance to find my notes on the songs I'd chosen and what I wanted to talk about it.

30 Day Music Meme - Day 14

Day 14 - A song that you would love played at your wedding:

Felix Mendelssohn - "Wedding March" in C major, from his suite of incidental music (Op. 61) to Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream.

It was, in fact, played at both of my weddings. I'm not planning on having another, unless polyamory gets legally recognised and Samantha & I can marry Lucy. And that's not likely to happen in my lifetime
