Samantha has set up a new Dreamwidth account - one for her, myself and Lucy where we'll be talking a lot more about the poly and BDSM aspects of our relationships. She's going to be doing most of the posting, we think, but we'll all of us be involved in what gets talked about.

If you're interested in reading about that side of things, about how our relationships work and want to know about the sex and the kink and all the nitty gritty, come and join us at [personal profile] kinkyandpoly

That doesn't mean I'm going to stop talking about it here when it comes up -but it's going to be more frank, and in depth, and friends locked over there.

I love finding new blogs to read. I'm a fan of the 'random community' and 'random journal' buttons here on Dreamwidth. I think the ability to find others with similar interests is such a fun tool.

But on top of this, I'm intrigued by the reactions of people when someone new happens to stumble across their journal. When I comment on a random post that I've found in such a way, I will always to try to preface it with 'I found your journal through...' so they know where I've come from but I don't always remember.

Some people welcome new readers with open arms, engage in conversation, comment back and forth and we end up adding each other to our 'circle'. No lie, this is my favourite kind of interaction.

Some people are initially suspicious, reply with caution but once I've said hi and how I found their journal are ok. Sometimes this continues on with an add, sometimes it's a one-off interaction. And that's perfectly fine.

Some people though baffle me. They get confrontational and defensive, demanding to know who you are, how you found their blog, why you're reading and why you're commenting.
I thought the whole point of social media, of online blogging was to interact with people? It's the same with people who write their posts as friends only - why post online if you don't want people to read what you're writing? Just keep a pen and paper diary and be done with it.

1) How did you choose your LJ/DW username?I'm a very boring and unoriginal kind of guy when it comes to usernames... it's my name.
2. What has been your favourite day this year and why? July 3rd definitely stands out as one - Samantha was offered what is basically her dream job. May 17th when I went over to France with some RAF buddies to go fishing is another.
3. What is your favourite film you've seen in the past year and why? I think Wonder Woman. I'm not good at the explanations and the whys - but it was everything I could have wanted from the film and more
4. What is your favourite book you've read in the past year and why? Hello, is this planet Earth?: My View from the International Space Station by Tim Peake. Just amazing
5. You get to program a half-hour of music videos on MTV. What videos to you pick? The music I listen to doesn't really have videos per se and I'm pretty sure MTV's viewers wouldn't be impressed. Perhaps some 2Cellos or Lindsey Stirling to draw them in gently?

Hello Dreamwidth.

Apologies for the lack of updates over the last couple of weeks. It's been a crazy busy time around here but I'm mostly still treading water. We're all a little stressed - and that's a trigger for worsening poor Lucy's schizophrenia

The basics are
Samantha has been offered a new job at the other end of the country. After much discussion, she's accepted it and we're moving next month down to Cardiff.
Unfortunately, and making packing and moving much harder than anticipated, Samantha has broken her leg. One of the most terrifying phonecalls a man can recieve is one from the hospital saying his wife's been in an accident. She tripped and fell down the stairs at work, gave herself mild concussion, a couple of cracked ribs and a displaced fracture of her right leg.

Also, Samantha now has a Dreamwidth account of her own. She's been struggling post-operation on her leg, groggy with painkillers and looking for something to do other than watch TV and read - she's a very active woman and being mostly immobile isn't working for her. You can find her at [personal profile] samanderson

I'm hoping to get caught up reading your posts over the next couple of days or so. Things are getting easier now we're finding our current rhythm around the house. And I'll get back into the posting that music meme probably tomorrow when I've had chance to find my notes on the songs I'd chosen and what I wanted to talk about it.

I'm still not completely enamoured with my layout and I'm already getting bored of some of my usericons. So tell me, great Dreamwidth mind, where can I go to investigate some new ones?

About Me

I'm Jack, a recent retiree looking for a new hobby. Apparently 'annoying my girlfriend' isn't the best use of my days. Her opinion, not mine

I'm a life-long science-fiction and superheroes fan, and a voracious reader. I enjoy movies, fishing, astronomy, and gardening.

I live in Wales with my wife, our girlfriend and an ever growing collection of four-legged friends.
